Theresa Mendes

Miss Mendes joined the faculty of Immaculate Prep in 1965 and went on to serve as Principal between 1997 and 2009 before retiring. Today, she still supports the school strongly and teaches Religious Education to Grades 1 to 4.

Miss Mendes has many fond memories and numerous memorable class moments over her 45+ years at Immaculate Prep…

Once in K2 we were doing the Calendar, as we did every morning.  It was the 21st and I was trying to teach the children what we say for #21.  They knew from Sports Day about 1st, 2nd and 3rd, so I said, “Let’s pretend that there are 21 persons in the race and you came in at number 21.  What would you say?” A little girl shouted out “YOU LOSE!”  We all cracked up!

There are also moments that fill your soul with laughter and there are amazing profound ones that fill you with awe.  For example, more recently in Grade One, I asked “Why do some people pray with their eyes closed?” and a child responded, “So that they can see God.”

I thank God for my vocation of teaching.
